Australia - Gold Coast Attractions

Many visitors are attracted to the Gold Coast for the surfing. When the surf is up which it usually is, you will find Surfers riding the waves from first light. Their favourite beach is Main Beach at the northern end of ‘The Strip’ but you find them almost everywhere along this stretch of coastline. Be aware that this is a risky sport and for most people, to be enjoyed from the beach!

Aquabus Safaris
are popular on the Gold Coast because they give you an introduction to the area from both sea and land! A good time to go is early so book to avoid disappointment! Most people find this a highly unusual and enjoyable experience, lurching from land to sea and enjoying a side of this area which is often hidden from the average visitors. They will take you through some of the canals and throughout the tour you can expect a running commentary on Australia’s colourful history.

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary can be reached either by car or by taxi or bus. Founded in 1947 by an enthusiastic beekeeper, Alex Griffiths, this sanctuary is home to more than 1,600 native Australian birds and animals. Many of these creatures have been victims of a confrontation with either man and nature and are brought here and nursed back to health. You will find the stunning green parrot called ‘the Rainforest Lorikeet, Possums, Koalas and of course Kangaroos.

Sea World
is a ‘must’ if you have children or just the young at heart in your party. Just 15 minutes drive from Surfers Beach. Offering both polished performances by its aquatic stars and perhaps more importantly offering a privately-funded programme of marine animal escue and welfare catering for injured whales, dophins, seals and sea lions. You can enjoy the Dolphin Cove Show, (usually twice daily) and the Water Ski Spectacular featuring human water ski experts.

Dreamworld, again just 15 minutes from Surfers Beach is an excellent theme park where you can enjoy being thoroughly frightened by the Tower of Terror or choose a more gentle stimulation to the senses. It will certainly offer a fun packed day for the whole family.

Close to Dreamworld, you will find the Warner Brothers’ Movie World where you can enjoy a well presented, behind the scenes view of the special effects and illusions of film making. Many famous films have been made here.

Alternatively, if you are looking for something cooler, look no further than Wet’n Wild World. Two highlights of this park are the Giant Wave Pool and Calypso Beach. You can spend the day participating in the fun, or just relaxing and sunbathing and watching everyone else!
